Veganism: Vitamin B12 is well supplemented, iodine is a matter of concern

Vitamin and Mineral Status in a Vegan Diet

The BfR research team analysed blood and urine samples and evaluated lifestyle questionnaires and dietary protocols of 36 men and women (aged 30-60).
Most participants had an iodine deficiency, significantly more pronounced among vegans (one third were below 20μg/L, the WHO limit).

A vegan diet has showed health benefits: higher fibre intake and lower cholesterol levels.
